Raised in Mongolia with Korean roots, his multicultural upbringing gives him a unique perspective on the nuances of different cultures and a deep appreciation for what connects us all on a human level. His work reflects these insights, blending diverse influences with universal themes.
He has co-written book, music, and lyrics with Marcus Perkins Bejarano for TWO NIGHTS & THREE DAYS (O’Neill NMTC, 2020), REFRESH (Without Walls Festival, 2019), SIDE-HUSTLE (JMF Goodspeed Writers Grove, 2024), ZOMBIES, INC. (Live & In Color, 2024), WAIT…ING (O'Neill NMTC, semi-finalist, 2022), and songs for the popular video game GENSHIN IMPACT, which have garnered over 20 million YouTube views, including the viral hit "The Diagnosis".
His other musical works include THE EGYPTIAN BABOON (NYU Developmental Reading, 2018); WHERE IS JESUS’ DICK? (Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture), SHEMAN (Seoul Youth Art Institute), and the play WONDERHUMAN, all of which also premiered in Seoul in 2017.
Kim also wrote music and lyrics for the award-winning short film THE AUDITION ("Best Musical," New York International Film Awards, 2020). His passion for Korean immigrant stories led him to score the documentary 나라 밖에서 찾은 나의 나라 - Finding Our Country Far From Home (Ministry of Science and ICT, Republic of Korea, 2022), exploring the history of South Korean immigrants in NYC over the past century.
His work has been performed at renowned venues such as Feinstein’s/54 Below, Joe’s Pub at The Public Theater, Two River Theater, and Lincoln Center. Kim is a proud graduate of the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at NYU Tisch School of the Arts.
